Building Electrification

Climate change poses an existential threat to the residents of Washington and in particular to low-income communities and communities of color.  In its mission to bring zero net carbon buildings to Washington, Shift Zero recognizes the need to utilize the lowest carbon fuels.  With Washington State on a pathway to 100% carbon neutral electricity, there is a compelling need to move towards using primarily electricity in our buildings and to eliminate fossil fuel use wherever possible.  The Shift Zero Building Electrification Task Force will work to remove the systemic barriers to building electrification, work with stakeholders to develop concepts for our future energy infrastructure, insure that the costs and benefits of electrification are equitably deployed to low-income residents and communities of color, and is complemented with efforts to maximize building energy efficiency.
